Christmas Dinner with Chartwells – A Perfectly Balanced Meal

The Eatwell Guide Shows us the different food groups and proportions of these that we need to consume to obtain the wide range of nutrients and energy needed throughout the day. Each coloured section represents a different food group and size of the segment represent how much of each group we should be eating each day.

  • We need to eat lots of FRUITS AND VEGETABLES each day, 5 portions! They provide VITAMINS and MINERALS strengthen our immune system and FIBRE to aid our digestive system.
  • We also need lots of CARBOHYDRATES such as rice, bread and potatoes to give us ENERGY. Wholegrain varieties also provide FIBRE and longer lasting energy.
  • We need some PROTEIN in our diet for GROWTH and REPAIR. Protein isn’t just found in meat, but in pulses, beans and fish.
  • We need DAIRY in our diet to keep our TEETH and BONES strong.
  • Only a small amount of OILS ANS SPREADS are required in our diets and we should use unsaturated varieties where possible.
  • We should limit the amount of food we eat that is high in saturated fat,salt and sugar.

Our Chartwells Festive menu is in keeping with the EatWell guide, with foods in each of these groups (see chart below) in the right portions.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this year’s Christmas school lunch! Your hard work paid off as the number of festive meals provided to the children of Lewisham this year totalled an amazing 19,488 and looked and tasted great!
