Here you will find all of the accreditations, charities and initiatives that influence us at Chartwells in our working partnership with Lewisham Council.
Chartwells, as part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, is the UK’s leading provider of contract catering and support services to the education sector. We strive to provide all children with a tasty, healthy and sustainable food service, whilst also educating young people about how to live a happy, healthy lifestyle through our ‘Eat, Learn, Live’ commitment.
FOOD FOR LIFE
The Food for Life Partnership is a network of schools and communities across England committed to transforming food culture. The aim is to reach out through schools to give communities access to seasonal, local and organic food, and to the skills they need to cook and grow fresh food.
Currently all primary school menus have the Food For Life Silver catering mark.
ISOQAR is a leading provider of audit and certification services for systems and processes. UKAS is the sole national accreditation body which assesses organisations that provide certification, testing, and inspection services. Many of the management system standards certified by ISOQAR have been accredited by UKAS.
On its last audit, Chartwells currently operates and is accredited at the silver standard. We are currently working towards gold.
BRITISH LION EGGS
The British Lion Quality mark on egg shells and egg boxes means that the eggs have been produced to the highest standard of food safety. Chartwells in Lewisham only uses British Lion quality free range eggs.
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
Fairtrade is a tool for development that ensures disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal through the use of the international FAIRTRADE Mark.
All of the sugar and bananas that Chartwells use are from a Fairtrade source.
The Marine stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organisation established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguarding seafood supplies for the future.
The blue MSC label denotes seafood which has been caught by fisheries that have been independently certified against the MSC’s standard for sustainable fishing. Businesses trading in MSC certified products caught in these fisheries have met MSC’s traceability standard, Chain of Custody.
Chartwells Lewisham joined the MSC programme October 2017. Chartwells Lewisham schools now carry the blue MSC ecolabel logo on their sustainable seafood menus.
